Best Buy: What’s Cooking?

Any guesses what’s all this hullabaloo about? Well, I know it’s pretty obvious but nothing is yet confirmed besides these two images.
On August 4th, Robert Stephens — founder of Best Buy & The Geek Squad, randomly tweeted two pictures one-after-another, which thrilled all the geeks and tech blogs around. Although, I don’t consider myself as a geek, but still I decided to play my part i.e. to entice readers about what’s cooking at Best Buy.
Apparently, it is a prototype tablet with the label of Best Buy’s in-house brand – Rocketfish, and it looks fairly similar to the much-anticipated HP Slate. But, this obviously can’t be enough to fill the cravings. People have already started to speculate its features, operating system, and pricing. While some perceive it as a re-branded HP Slate, others emphasize on its possibility of being Android-based. Truth be told, it’s too early to say anything.
Even Stephens himself didn’t take it too seriously, as he later tweeted:

“I’ve been tweeting photos of tablet for months. So much for the realtime web. No one should be surprised. Who do you think makes Insignia?”

Furthermore, he told NY Times that it’s just an empty shell right now. That means nothing really could be expected. But, being a tablet-hungry person, I hope they load this sleek shell with some staggering features, and Android OS (fingers crossed) sometime soon, and we get to read more about this product directly from the man himself.

Unravel the myth behind Skype 5.0, Adds Facebook And Videoconferencing Features

We all know about Skype as we all love to make free calls through it. Skype is one of the biggest software applications that offer voice calls over the internet. Skype was released in the year 2003 and has embarked its name in the software industry. Skype usually uses non VoIP service as it doesn’t runs on servers. Lot of talks rather rumors are hovering over the latest version of the Skype software. The Skype 5.0 is the newest version, which is only for windows. There was a lot of rumor and expectation surrounding the new edition of the software so thought to take a look at it.

The new feature

If you are a devotee of the Skype service then you must have tired to have a glimpse of the new version. The new version has radically squeezed lots of elements in the new Skype.  And I have seen quotation such as “the Facebook phone”, but that is not the fact. It is not the Facebook phone. It is the new version of the Skype includes a new feature which is a Facebook tab. It has taken full advantage of the utility of Facebook.  It is also free to download for the entire basic feature.

It has still got the same look and feel and the visible transition is the inclusion of photos in the contact list and the Facebook tab. Installation process remains the same, there is no change or uniqueness on that part. When you start the Skype and logs on to the Facebook tab, it automatically updates the RSS feeds and also adds the Skype calls or SMS buttons besides the contact that are on Skype or next to those who have their contact details synchronized with Skype. You can also view your Phonebook of Facebook that normally displays the contact details which are available on Facebook. Strangely, it does not show the Skype buttons in that tab. That was one odd thing about the new version.

Things remained unaltered

And yes this version also includes the 10-way video call feature. This has become the USP of Skype as it allows many video conferences at the same time. Another feature that remains the same is the automatic call recovery that outstandingly rejoins the missed calls which has added another trademark to the brand.  But as a user you have to wait for the mobile version of the Skype. It seems it needs more time to appear on every cell phone.

The verdict

Skype still retains its place as the finest non-VoIP voice over internet software. With its old USP of multiple video conferences at a same time remains unhindered and still works at a good rate. Other than that everything is still same. The look, working almost everything is same apart from the inclusion of photos nest to e very contact.

Most talked about feature, which is the new in the tally is the Facebook tab. Skype has utilized the popularity of the social networking giants. It adds another flavor to our utility. With frequent RSS feed updates, I believe it is a good tiny version of your Facebook. If you want to use Skype and Facebook at the same time you can use the Skype 5.0. I think, it is now available over the net, so download it and analyze it yourself.  As of me, I love the idea of Skype I’ll give it 8.5 out of 10. Way to go Skype!

WebOS 2.0 review

Web OS 2.0 or officially now called HP webOS is going to make great news. Although the version number may never been seen again but there are many of its features that makes you have a look at this new design. We will just review this new featured phone and it will bring you so many new things that any customer would love to get in their phone. Palm has done wonders with web OS and it has revealed that t will continue to do these wonders with tiny handset. This new webOS is something that will help you in multi tasking easily.

Palm’s is continuously giving details with all new featured webOS that is happening in it. You may have sensed some of its basic features that would be included in it. They have thought very deeply to extend the features of OS due to many reasons. Therefore, this new WebOS 2.0 is surely going to be developers with so many in built features. The first one is stack feature that is palm’s fantastic metaphor helping multi-tasking UI in any phone. It is just a bump to new logical level. This features helps in sorting every card in order. You can easily arrange and rearrange your cards within the same device. Second feature that is different is developers can easily type synergy. All your social networking stuff and everything else would be easily connected with the developers. All synergy-stored contacts could be easily accessed. Exhibition is yet another feature that helps in displaying stuff easily on your phone. When that is connected to touchstone charger, it completely displays everything. As the webOS 2.0 is more of developer’s thing, so it is going to get god reviews for it. With so many processing capabilities along with features, it is going to work well with low level and high level networking system. It could be good phone with interesting features. It is going to be good for consumers as well as developers. Palm has released the next version of it and soon this will be out too.

It is expected that this new thing would be released within this year. Not much has been revealed regarding the exact date but everything would be tested at developer’s end. Web 2.0 is going to change the look and all other hardware and software details of phone. The whole app catalog is very easily created and little things are taken care of. The major changes might work well for the webOS 2.0.

With so many features included in new Palm web OS 2.0, it is expected that its price would be even higher and that would be within the budgets of web developers.
