Sony and Microsoft gamers

Wii Fit Plus
When it launched in 2006, the Nintendo Wii was, quite literally, a game-changer. As competitors such as Sony and Microsoft went in hard on serious gamers (read: Red Bull-chugging college freshman), the Wii’s motion-sensing wands and family appeal made it a surprise success.
Now, after 5 years and with fresh competition from Microsoft’s Kinect, Nintendo will attempt to do it all over again with a new system.

According to Kotaku, the platform — possibly code-named “Project Cafe” — is due in 2012, reportedly two years sooner than Sony and Microsoft’s plotted follow-ups to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively. Details are scarce, but won’t be for long: “We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held from June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles,” Nintendo said in a statement to Kotaku. Given Nintendo’s long and rewarding history, we can’t wait to see where Mario, Link and the rest head next — what do you reckon, Brand Xers? Can Nintendo keep up with the competition?

One of Beijing's best-loved venues gets set to expand its empire this weekend, with the Paddy O'Shea's posse opening Paddy's Pitstop in Shunyi's Pinnacle Plaza. The new bar will feature Guinness, Carlsberg and Stella on draft, with prices similar to Paddy O'Shea's. According to the self-styled Jay-Z of Beijing, Karl "I'm not a businessman, I'm a business, man" Long, the Pitstop will offer 60sqm space, space for eight tables outside, live sports broadcasts, simple pub grub and "real-time, state-of-the-art music." In other words, iTunes. Dads trudging around Pinnacle Plaza with the family have something to look forward to this weekend.
